| Dr
Belinda Khong began her career as a lawyer
and practiced for a number of years in Malaysia
and Singapore, and was the senior partner
of the law firm she founded, from 1980 to
1989. She also lectured law at the Department
of Estates & Building Management, National
University of Singapore.
In
1989, she moved
into psychology when she returned to Australia.
Belinda Khong received her doctorate in psychology
from Macquarie University, Sydney and was
awarded the Dean’s commendation for
her dissertation on A Comparative Analysis
of the Concept of Responsibility in Daseinsanalysis
and Buddhist Psychology. She was also
awarded the Sidney M. Jourard Memorial Student
Award by the Humanistic Division of the American
Psychological Association for outstanding
postgraduate student research.
Currently, Dr Khong is a consulting psychologist
and counsel individuals and families on a
range of issues including depression, anxiety,
relationships, communication skills, coping
with change, work-life balance, stress management
and personal growth. She also lectures at
the department of psychology, Macquarie University
on various courses including personality,
adult development, Eastern psychology, meditation
and spirituality. She developed and run postgraduate
courses on qualitative research and design
and supervises postgraduate students on their
research projects.
Dr
Khong conducts workshops and individual sessions
on meditation, mindfulness practice and stress
management for organisations, professionals
and members of the public in Australia and
overseas. She has completed a professional
training programme on Mindfulness-Based Stress
reduction at the Center for Mindfulness in
Medicine, Health Care, and Society, University
of Massachusetts Medical School, USA.
Her
current interests include researching and
integrating comparative psychology, meditation
and mindfulness practice in the areas of psychotherapy,
personal growth and healing, and spirituality.
